The European Day of Sustainable Communities

The European Day of Sustainable Communities (EDSC), celebrated every September since 2017, showcases transformative community-led action across Europe.

All across the world communities are taking action for a better world. Thousands of community initiatives across Europe are making life healthier, fairer and more sustainable.

EDSC shines a light on these initiatives. It builds support for community-led action from policy makers and inspires the wider public. It also provides a moment for communities to take stock, and to celebrate their transformative work.

Advocacy

Through advocacy, Communities for Future pushes for policy change at European, national and international level to support and empower CLIs working for climate justice and sustainability.

CfF aims to act as a bridge between community-led initiatives and policy makers, promoting greater engagement, interaction and dialogue. To achieve the goals of the European Green Deal and the Paris Agreement, CLIs play a central role in implementing policy at the local and bioregional levels.

CfF Policy Campaigns

Through consultations with community-led initiatives, ECOLISE and CfF are developing a policy position on 10 Theses Towards Transformative Community-Led Local Development Policies.

Community-led initiatives and the European Green Deal: towards transformative local development policies

ECOLISE has been in conversation with members and partners during a consultation process around 10 theses towards transformative community-led local development. The aim? To trigger conversations – and to arrive at a shared policy position on transformative local development policies. Around 100 people from roughly 50 different organisations have participated in this consultation process so far.
