Last week I had the pleasure to travel for 5 days through Portugal showing my new documentary ALTER NATIVAS – Building Possible Futures. A collaborative film about transition initiatives and ecosocial regeneration that aims to inspire other possible futures. A film that I codirected with Agustí Corominas, that we started to promote this spring, and that is produced by Red de Transición – Transition Network Spain.

5 days, 5 screenings, 5 different places. Starting from the north, going south to Alentejo and ending in Lisbon, in this order: Póvoa de Varzim, Aveiro, Tamera in Odemira, Palmela, and Telheiras in Lisbon. Hundreds of participants of all ages, a lot of inspiring initiatives, sharings and conversations, new connections (Felipe Quintão Patrick Ribeiro, Martin Winiecki, Alexandra Silva, Aida Shibli, Fatima Cabeleira, Joao Rosa, and many more), reconnecting with good friends Duncan Crowley André Vizinho, Filipa Pimentel Elizabeta Z Jovanovska Anahí Beatriz Pacheco Araneda, Luis Keel Pereira, José…

This has also been a great opportunity to listen to local stories of possible futures, to meet with people and discover initiatives that are already transforming their territories, and learn from these beatiful places. On top of that we have been filming this tour thanks to the great work of Fernando Antunes Amaral, a visual anthropologist and activist filmaker, and this may be the seed of a documentary led by him. You can follow his wonderful work here.

The feedback to the documentary has been great, many people inspired about it. Described as a great tool to bring ideas, connect people, and open minds and hearts!

The tour has been organised with Transiçao Portugal, with the support of the local organisers and many people. Thanks to everyone that made it possible, specially to Pedro Macedo, Carina Lourenço, and Fernando Antunes Amaral for all their passion, generosity and support. We have enjoyed a lot!

The promotion phase of ALTER NATIVAS will continue in the coming months. Creating subtitles in other languages, presenting the film in some festivals this Autumn/winter, and coorganising new events. We go step by step because our capacity is limited.

All the information, events, contact, etc. through our website. All support is welcomed, so if you have any idea please write to us, and you can also donate here.

Weaving networks and creating narratives of possibility in these uncertain times. “A lot of small people, in small places, doing small things, can change the world.”
