The Scottish Fair Trade Forum and Ollema, through their new partnership ‘B2B Coffee’, are organising an online insight event to explore the climate emergency through the lens of coffee farmers in the Rwanda and Uganda.

Rwandan and Ugandan farmers are among those who need climate justice now.

Like many other crops grown in developing countries, coffee is highly vulnerable to climate change. Rising temperatures and increasingly erratic rainfall continue to make coffee plants more susceptible to more pests and diseases, and can decrease both the quantity and quality of the crop. The impact of climate change is intensifying at a rate never seen before and is putting the livelihood, food security and wellbeing of farming families at risk.

As part of Climate Fringe Week and Great Big Green Week, join our special event to hear coffee farmers from Rwanda and Uganda explain what the devastating impacts of climate emergency mean for them on the forefront every day. We will explore:

How increased extreme weather events impact farmers’ livelihoods and communities?
How are coffee farmers adapting, mitigating and becoming more resilient to climate change?
Is there a positive way forward?
What can we do in the UK to help?
Special guest speakers include:

Peter Marahi, BUKA Cooperative – Uganda
Enosi Muthahinga, Kabonero Cooperative – Uganda
Davis Mibiiri, Karangura Cooperative – Uganda
Safari Bonaventure, Koakaka Cooperative – Rwanda
Japhet Habimana, Cocagi Cooperative – Rwanda
Bahati Thierry, Kopakaki Cooperative – Rwanda
