What makes Energy Communities the future of the energy system?
January 28, 2021 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm CET
Free
Local Energy Communities can play a crucial role in the energy transition by providing flexibility services and orchestrating decentralised energy resources to provide a cost-efficient and secure electricity supply and guarantee a stable grid, while at the same time promoting the consumption of energy produced at km0 and empowering local actors, thus increasing the social impact and cohesion of the communities.
Local Energy Communities are becoming increasingly represented throughout Europe as they enable the different actors such as neighbours, public authorities and local organisations to actively participate in the energy transition by empowering them with the tools to participate in energy markets. The Clean Energy Package referred for the first time to energy communities as “as a way to organise collective energy actions around open, democratic participation and governance and the provision of benefits for the members of the local community”. In the near future, the different EU national legislations should allow these communities to actively participate in energy markets to provide a cost-efficient, renewable and secure electricity supply, guaranteeing a stable grid. Energy cooperatives and other energy market actors have experimented with these concepts in different EU projects, trying to capture the benefits of such a citizen-centred approach.
R2M Solution has wide expertise in the development of Local Energy Communities. As a technology aggregator with a large experience in the European innovation ecosystem, R2M turns research results into solutions to accelerate the energy transition. In this event, R2M brings together four speakers with different expertise that will share their insights on Energy Communities. Join us to learn more about the main challenges and opportunities for this key innovation, as well as its current and future developments in Europe. We will clarify these new concepts and illustrate them with hands-on examples from our European pilot projects and our experiences in the field.
