Previously the day has been celebrated by community gardens, energy cooperatives, cafes, churches, ecovillages, housing associations, permaculture gatherings, arts festivals, schools, universities, Transition town groups, to name but a few.

What?

Local communities in 27 countries have organized hundreds of events to celebrate previous editions of the European Day of Sustainable Communities.

In 2020 most events were held online. We launched Communities for Future, a new action program to inspire and support communities to take action.

This year we hope you can organize in-person events again, to showcase your work in creating a healthier, fairer, regenerative future. EDSC21 events can be open days, conferences, apple harvests, tours, concerts, shared meals, film-screenings, hackathons – let your imagination run wild!

When?

The European Day of Sustainable Communities is on 18th September 2021. To mark the day we welcome events organized between 11th and the 25th September 2021. Registration opens in June.

Why?

All across the world communities are taking action for a better world. Thousands of community initiatives across Europe are making life healthier, fairer and more sustainable.

Research shows that such initiatives are highly effective in reducing ecological footprints, building social capital and enhancing local economies. And we know that strong local communities have stood resilient in the face of the pandemic.

#EDSC shines a light on these initiatives. It builds support for community-led action from policy makers and inspires the wider public. It also provides a moment for communities to take stock, and to celebrate their transformative work.

How?

Plan your event for September and register it here. By doing so you become a co-creator of the day. If you like you can reach out to the National Contact Point in your country.

A chi è rivolta?

In cosa consiste?

Zajednice diljem svijeta aktivno stvaraju bolji svijet. Tisuće inicijativa u zajednicama diljem Europe čine život zdravijim, pravednijim i održivijim.

On gradi podršku zakonodavaca takvom djelovanju lokalnih zajednica i nadahnjuje šire stanovništvo.

Wir starteten Communities for Future!

Was?

Prazniku pravimo Evropski dan trajnostnih skupnosti (European Day of Sustainable Communities, EDSC).

V letu 2019 so EDSC praznovale skupnosti v 27 državah s stotinami dogodkov, kot so konference, dnevi odprtih vrat, ekskurzije, koncerti, skupinsko obiranje sadja, pogostitve in še marsikaj.

Praznovanj

Kdo?

Dogodki v okviru EDSC21 so lahko dnevi odprtih vrat, konference, obiranje sadja, ekskurzije, koncerti, skupni obroki, ogledi filmov s povezano vsebino, “hackathoni” – pustite domišljiji prosto pot!

Kdaj?

Raziskave kažejo, da take pobude zelo učinkovito zmanjšujejo svoj okoljski odtis, gradijo družbeni kapital in krepijo lokalno ekonomijo.

#EDSC21 želi na ta dan postaviti take pobude v središče pozornosti.

Kako?

Načrtujte svoje dogodke v septembru in jih registrirajte tukaj.

Would you like to learn more about permaculture?

From 8th - 17th October a diverse team from the European permaculture community is running an online convergence for the first time. Their motto is: Celebrating Permaculture!

The convergence is a chance to learn together, make new connections, and grow the network that is tackling some of the biggest challenges of our time.

#EUPC21 will celebrate the work of permaculture across Europe.

Every evening for 10 days the following topics will be presented:

Celebrating Permaculture
Everyone Gardens
Resilient Communities
Let's Look After Each Other
Social and Film Night
An Economy for People and Planet
Youth, Future Care and the Next Generation
Farming with Nature
Healing Landscapes
Celebration

Whether you have only recently started to dive into permaculture or have been active for a long time, the ten day programme has something for every permaculture practitioner. From how to grow your garden to transforming your city. Whether you can attend one session or all ten, you will be very welcome to join the convergence this October.

To find out more and to book your place at EUPC21 see WWOOF News on the linktree in our bio.

(Event from last May, organised with #ECOLISE & communitiesforfuture )

From Fridays for Future to Communities for Future.
How can community-led initiatives bring about system change?

This event is one of the “Transition Talks” that are happening as part of the #CitiesforChange summit. It is part of the “Energy and Climate” track, is fully online and is on Wednesday 26th from 14-16h CEST (13h Lisbon).

#ECOLISE invites 8 communities to respond to 4 specific questions about Regeneration; Social, Cultural, Ecology, Economy.

• Social: How can we bring regenerative design ideas from ecovillages to our cities, especially when urban injustice continues to grow? (Global Ecovillage Network & UrbanA)

• Cultural: How can we bring about a culture of resistance and regeneration that is accessible to all? ( Fridays for Future International + Communities for Future)

• Ecology: How can we bring our ecological ideas out of the academic and activist ghettos to the streets and everyday social movements? (Degrowth & Transition Network / Transition Brixton)

• Economy: Imagining an end to capitalism, instead of the end to the world… How best can community-led initiatives bring about territorial transformation, policy change and system change? (Doughnut Economics & Regenesis Group)
